The eligibility criteria for treatment in the operating room are as follows:
1. Restorative treatments and surgeries for children 12 years of age or under that require extensive rehabilitation and who could not be managed otherwise without a GA or whose treatment may last more than one hour. Please note that children under 4 years of age must weigh over 15kg; or
2. Exams, x-rays, preventative services as well as basic restorative treatments and surgeries for patients with severe mental or physical disabilities that preclude treatment under local anesthetic; or with a demonstrated contra-indication to local anesthetic; or
3. Insured dental services, including extractions and biopsies, that are significantly complex or invasive in nature, such that it requires general anesthesia. Typically this involves extractions in multiple quadrants, including impactions and complex teeth.
Note: Unfortunately, root canal therapy is not currently being offered.
